The wisteria vine, native to North America and incomparably ornamental, is one of the best-known and cherished Tiffany designs. Individual blossoms within each cluster mature at different times, lower blossoms open and mature earlier than those higher on the cluster, and adjoining clusters may mature at different times. This diversity within the plant allows the craftsperson endless possibilities for subtle yet definite color combinations to exist within and between the spectacular long lilac-blue, pea-like clusters of flowers.
This lamp is a composite reproduction of original miniature Wisteria Tiffany lamps as pictured in Dr. Neustadt's book "The Lamps of Tiffany" and has three repeats, with the same overall dimensions, pattern repeats and intricate detail as the originals.
Antique Tiffany style lamps were constructed of dense opalescent stained glass that masks the light source and shows color by reflected light when the light is turned off.
This tree limb filigree is made of cast brass. The preparation and use of cast brass filigree and cast brass vase caps is detailed in Stained Glass Crafting .
